Serve All of Summit

Michelle believes that all residents of Summit should have a say in what happens in their town. As she discussed in her Candidate Statement on TAPinto, the current Republican council is not listening to the residents. Michelle will listen to all residents and clearly state her position. Too often we hear that "council is listening" when they’ve already made up their minds. We need a council that will be honest with their positions every step of the way.

Pedestrian Safety

Summit has five elementary schools and is laid out such that every child should be able to walk to and from school. This is true for most children but not all. Many parents are afraid to let their children walk to school due to lack of sidewalks. Michelle will:

  1. prioritize progress on the sidewalk master plan.
  2. work with the city engineer to minimize the effect on residents’ property.
  3. seek out grant funding wherever possible to reduce the tax burden on residents.

All children deserve a safe walking route to school!

Responsible Spending

Summit’s average residential taxpayer pays nearly double the state average in property taxes. In 2024, the Republican-led council passed a budget with the largest property tax increase in over 10 years. Michelle believes that Council must make tough choices to spend its residents’ money wisely, while ensuring Summit remains one of the best places to live.

Summit’s municipal budget should prioritize:

  1. Public safety. This not only includes spending on Pedestrian Safety, but ensuring the Summit Police Department and Summit Fire Department have the resources they need to effectively do their job.
  2. Education. As PTO co-president of Washington Elementary, Michelle believes it’s important to support our hard-working teachers and administrators so they can provide the best possible education to all children of Summit. As a council member, Michelle will continue to provide that support.
  3. Community. We must continue to invest in community programs and infrastructure that maintain the charm of our town. We can do so responsibly by focusing on the things that help the most people. This includes projects like refreshing our aging playgrounds.
  4. Lower taxes. Michelle will prioritize maintaining or lowering taxes over pet projects that only serve a small number of people.

Restore Civility

We are all neighbors living in a beautiful town. We can disagree without being disagreeable.  It’s time to turn the page and bring joy back to Summit. If elected, Michelle pledges to fight for, not with, the residents of Summit.
